Observing and absorbing creativity at Milan design week
It’s essential to absorb visual culture outside work hours – it really helps inform our creative work at Spinach. With some 300,000 creative souls gathered here from around the world, few places match the artistic energy Milan offers during Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
Alongside the ever expanding sister event Fuorisalone (which literally means away from the main Salone expo and exhibiting in pop-up galleries on the backstreets of Milan), the annual design fair in April offers a unique opportunity to grasp the latest trends in shape, form, technology and material.
It also offers the opportunity to meet, mingle and engage with the avant-garde. Milan is, of course, also a fantastic place to people watch – there is something about this special Italian city that feeds the imagination and helped inform our latest book The Life Negroni.
We love the extra layer Milan’s dynamic architectural backdrop offers too. Few urban settings have such a collage of architecture – decorative courtyards, charming palazzos, confident narcissistic fascists architecture, gritty post war brutalism, and contemporary builds all seem to co-habit peacefully.
Read our observations from the 2016 Milan design week. Here we offer a snapshot of the colours and textures of this energising week.
